Ugly, Ugly, UGLY Americans in Orange County... Now, I'm not going to be as stupid and ridiculous as these demonstrators and generalize that ugly Americans only reside in Orange County. But, this is where this happened. And yes, it could've been "Anywhere USA".

This vile, disgusting, ignorant and hate-filled demonstration is a perfect example of why an innocent nine year old little girl was shot and killed in Arizona. Intolerance of people who have different opinions, different ideas, or who are just different.

These sick, sick people... There must be a portion of them that's dead inside. And they don't even know it.

I forced myself to watch this all the way through. Because the other "Christina Greenes" who had to listen to such filth directed at THEM, had no choice. To see the adults be screamed at heinously is bad enough, but to see the young children, to see them stop in their tracks, because fear and trepidation finally stopped their little feet from moving, shreds me...

These hate mongers... There is nothing good there. Nothing. No peace, no grace, no decency. Only hate.

Funny, they're exactly who they think those other people are...

Terrorists.

Okay, I'm sorry. I can't fucking let it go... Boehner skips memorial for Ariz. shooting victims

He skipped the memorial for a cocktail party.

That damn orange Oompa-Loompa.

He's too busy being orange and crying all his mascara off that he doesn't have any sense.

And I'm not a huge fan of Howard Stern, but about this, he's right:

I told Will after this all erupted, what if she (and the other people in influential positions) just had a humble response? What if they just found some humility and said, "This is horrible. I know that my voice and the symbols I've used didn't DIRECTLY cause this tragedy, but I'm horrified to think that they may have influenced someone who was mentally impaired. I wasn't thinking... I've shown poor judgment. This should be our wake-up call. It should be MY wake-up call. That I should remember how much damage words can do. That even though I don't agree with the policies being enacted by this president and this congress, I need to be more civil. And the inflammatory rhetoric really needs to stop. What the hell was I thinking..."

I fuck up ALL THE TIME. I say stupid things, I do stupid things, I can get mad for silly reasons, I laugh inappropriately often (I'm the first one to laugh at a funeral - I'm not proud of it, I'm just sayin'). And I don't blow away in the wind when I do, and I don't blow away in the wind when I admit it.

What the hell is wrong with admitting to fucking up? It's actually empowering and liberating to do so... It lifts a bizarre burden that we put upon ourselves that smells of a delusion of perfection.

I know, I'm dreaming. That would mean she and they are actually decent and logical and humble people. That they lean toward reason and something rational. That's not their primary motive, so why on earth should I ever expect it.

Christina was born on Sept. 11, 2001, a horrific day, like Saturday, that changed the mood of the country. She was featured in the book "Faces of Hope, Babies Born on 9/11."

Roxanna Green said her daughter was proud to be in the book and was hopeful about the future.

"She didn't really look at 9/11 as so much a tragedy like the rest of us did," she said on ABC's "Good Morning America." "She looked at it as an opportunity for change, for hope. ... She always wanted peace."

She added, "She was an amazing little girl. She got robbed of all the wonderful things she could have done." (source)

And WE got robbed of all the wonderful things she could have done...

How ironic that Christina was born on 9/11, no?

It's like we're all in a cage together and we've thrown away the key. And destructive, like acting in anger is, we're tearing at the only thing we can - each other. And we've murdered the only beautiful thing about that day...

Her birth was certainly a symbol. And now, her death seems even more so...

I planned on posting something about Christina Green today, I felt like we should know her better. And being that Will and I don't have television, I don't know what all the talking heads are saying... I imagine they're hard at work, making the most out of it for their ratings.

Even though I'm still deeply disturbed and angry, and even though I know that a "lack of civility" (that's putting it mildly) didn't directly cause this tragedy, it certainly didn't help. Even though I'm still pissed, I can't wallow anymore. And I don't wish to add to the destruction with my own anger...

It's time to learn.

I rather like what President Obama said yesterday. He spoke with dignity and grace, as a good leader should, “If, as has been discussed in recent days, their deaths help usher in more civility in our public discourse,” Mr. Obama said, “let us remember that it is not because a simple lack of civility caused this tragedy — it did not — but rather because only a more civil and honest public discourse can help us face up to our challenges as a nation, in a way that would make them proud.”

And ending with a reflection on a vivacious, outstanding little girl, “We place our hands over our heart,” Mr. Obama said, promising to work to forge “a country that is forever worthy of her gentle happy spirit.” (source)

That is worth working for indeed. For all of our sakes.
