The Seeing Eye Car

Justice is blindfolded for a reason, to see without prejudice, without bias, to see objectively, without fear or favor, regardless of the identity, power, or weakness of the involved.

So, appropriately the highest court in California ruled last month that refusing homosexuals the right to wed violated the state constitution. You, no doubt have heard this news...

Well, the California court says gay marriages can proceed on June 17th.

Ironically, Will and I will be celebrating our 6th anniversary on June 16th. But remember, 6 gay years is equal to...let's see...42 straight years.

Wait a minute...I got that mixed up. 6 straight years is equal to 42 gay years. Or thereabouts. Right? Right.

Yeah. Either way, we've been together for awhile.

I greeted the initial news with gratitude, that someone, somewhere (Sacramento) had the objectivity, the lack of bigotry, to actually indulge themselves in deductive reasoning and logic to come to this decision.

TO ACTUALLY HAVE THE MASSIVE BALLS AND THE PRONOUNCED LABIA (why should balls get all the credit?) TO STAND UP AND SAY THIS IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

Will's mom called immediately because she was so excited.

Will and I met the news with more trepidation, knowing that the "Christian" bigots were going to get their bibles in an uproar...which of course, they have.

Like I said, Lady Justice is blindfolded for a reason. Unfortunately, voters are not.

And you've no doubt heard: New York's Governor David Paterson has directed all state agencies to begin to revise their policies and regulations to recognize same-sex marriages performed in other jurisdictions, like Massachusetts, California and Canada.

Ironically, not only is Governor Paterson New York's first black Governor, he is blind as well.

And having "a reputation as a man more apt to reach for an olive branch than a baseball bat", I get the distinct feeling that he sees things much more clearly than do many people.

I often think that many people think that eventually attitudes will change, and then the behavior will follow. In actuality, it's the reverse. When a behavior is altered, the attitude will follow. Unless knowledge is present, or more importantly, the desire for knowledge. Then, knowledge will influence attitude, which will thus influence behavior.

The whole phenomenon and the science of communication behind it is really rather fascinating.

Once the Third Reich (or should be known as the "Turd" Wrong) began implementing rules against the Jews, the intolerant behavior followed, which led to the Holocaust.

They were called the Nuremberg Race Laws.

"The Nuremberg Race Laws of 1935 deprived German Jews of their rights of citizenship, giving them the status of "subjects" in Hitler's Reich. The laws also made it forbidden for Jews to marry or have sexual relations with Aryans or to employ young Aryan women as household help. (An Aryan being a person with blond hair and blue eyes of Germanic heritage.)

The first two laws comprising the Nuremberg Race Laws were: "The Law for the Protection of German Blood and German Honor" (regarding Jewish marriage) and "The Reich Citizenship Law" (designating Jews as subjects)." (source)

During the Civil Rights movement (part 1, 2, and 3), after segregation was abolished, it took 15 years, 15 YEARS before the federal government stepped in and ENFORCED desegregation.

The majority of Southern Whites had happily not done A THING for a decade and a half.

It took Rosa Parks getting arrested, and it took Martin Luther King JR and it took a whole lot of brave, courageous people to stand up for what they believed. Black AND White. Together.

And had it been left up to the voters of the South, I'm wondering how long the crime of slavery would've continued? Or how long it would've been before true Civil Rights and desegregation would've come to fruition?

As in my post yesterday regarding Robert F. Kennedy's Ripple of Hope, the same holds true for a Ripple of Hate. And John McCain is a continuation of the same. And if you think otherwise, that he (and what he represents) really isn't as bad as what we've had for the past 8 years, then you're diluted. It WILL, more or less, be the same...

McCain applauds Calif. gay marriage ban

By APPLAUDING discrimination, APPLAUDING IT??? This is quite a message John. And it's sending out a ripple...A ripple that bigotry and narrow-mindedness is okay.

(AP)"The Republican presidential candidate's campaign released a statement Tuesday in which McCain said California residents should decide who can marry "rather than having that decision made by judicial fiat."

"Judicial fiat"?? Okay, what a dumbass. WE ALL KNOW...THAT A "FIAT"

IS A CAR!!! HELLLOOOOOO??

What a silly-willy-hilly-billy.

As though a CAR made the decision for mo's to marry. Sheeschh.

However, coincidentally, the last time I checked, the automobile didn't give a shit WHO its passenger was. Oh sure, we might be a little squished and someone might not get a window seat, but the car doesn't discriminate, everyone is welcome along for the ride.
